Life brings many challenges for every member of the human family. Some challenges are the result of unwise choices that all of us make from time to time. Other challenges may have nothing to do with our choices at all but are the result of others’ actions. And sometimes our situation is not a result of choices but is simply a part of the experience of life. But in every circumstance, hope and peace can be found in Jesus Christ--who understands our burdens--and in His gospel.

1. Armadillos carry leprosy. Don’t touch them!

2. We have poisonous caterpillars. Don’t touch them either.

3. Oh, and the fire ants. Don’t touch them or mess with their mounds. You’ll be sorry.

4. It’s not safe to sit on the grass. Thank the fire ants for that.

5. Highway 183 (runs North and South) is also known as Research Blvd in northern Austin, Bell Blvd in Cedar Park.

6. 1431 (runs East and West) is also known as Whitestone Blvd in Cedar Park, and University Blvd and Chandler on the other side of Interstate 35.

7. Parmer Lane is called Ronald Reagan north of 1431.

8. Brushy Creek Rd is also called Hairy Man Rd.

9. Capital of Texas Highway is also known as Loop 1.

10. You don’t need cash for the Toll Roads. But you will find a bill in your mail within a month. Get a TXTAG toll pass for a less expensive drive.

11. Bring your own reusable shopping bags when you shop in Austin. They have a ban on plastic bags. This is also true for the Lakeline Mall.

12. If you live in a new development expect to see a small scorpion or two in your house. If you’re lucky you might see a tarantula. They are not poisonous. Take a picture first for proof, then gently scoop it up with a shovel and fling him across the yard.

Things to do

The Cedar Park Library has a calendar full of activities for all ages; story time for babies, toddlers, and preschoolers, puppet shows, weekly movies and a reading club in the summer for the kids, family story time on Saturday mornings, and after school programs for elementary school and teens. The Cedar Park Center hosts the Austin Spurs Basketball team, the Texas Stars Hockey team, as well as concerts, live shows, trade shows, etc… 2100 Ave of the Stars, Cedar Park

Austin’s children’s museum, The Thinkery, is a great place to spend the afternoon letting your kids explore. Geared towards toddlers to twelve years old. Main Event: (512) 401-0000 13301 North 183 78750. Bowling alley, rock wall climbing, video arcade, laser tag, glow in the dark miniature golf, billiards, shuffle board. Fun place for the family or for a date night.

Dave & Busters: (512) 346-8015 9333 Research Blvd. Similar to Main Event, but the food is of a higher quality, better menu variety, and the environment is geared towards adults. Makes a great date night!
